Jan 2008 Meeting a Success

We had about 15 people in attendance and it was a great meeting.

We covered most of the stuff we set out to – Robbie’s presentation was fantastic & we’ll definitely be doing more Workflow Sessions in the future.

We also made some plans for future meetings, so look for that news coming soon.

The first Editors’ Roundtable meeting of 2008 takes place next Tuesday, January 29, 6:30pm @ Future Media Concepts

7:00 -7:30pm – Presentation
Online editor and colorist, Robbie Carman, co-author of Final Cut Pro Workflows: TheIndependent Studio Handbook will discuss Final Cut Studio workflow issues as they relate to small, medium and large post-facilities. Highlights include: Understanding Final Cut Pro’s place in the ongoing change of traditional post production roles; basic storage and codec strategies; collaborative workflow tools; and analyzing real world workflow using several case studies.

7:30 – 8:00pm – Presentation
I will be presenting two brief pieces, one on a DVD/Visual TC Creation Technique & an Editor’s Primer on Dealing with P2 Media. These presentations, while informative, will give attendees examples of the kinds of short presentations that we could use to share info editor-to-editor.

8:30 -9:00+ – Discussion
We will wrap up with a discussion of what topics we could discuss at future meetings.Have some burning issue you want to discuss? Have some techniques you wish to share with others? Bring your ideas and your enthusiasm.

Last night we had a Kickoff & Organizational Meeting at Interface Media Group. There were about 20 people in attendance. Primarily editors, we also had a few producers, aspiring editors and even a music composer join us.

Things will come together quickly and we will start having monthly get togethers.

Here’s what we discussed:March 7 Kickoff Meeting Agenda. Everyone was pretty much in agreement that we’re heading in the right direction so far.

I got a great sense that the interest in the group is high and that there are a number of motivated people who want to see the thing succeed. I’m happy that it seems to have generated so much interest and am hopeful we can start having regular meetings.

Last night we set up committees that will begin to get things going. Soon I will publish a list of the committees and who’s on them and what they do. Look for it.
